Due to the upcoming Chinese New Year our church decided to give out some goodies and stuff to the residents living near church. It was an eye-opener to realise just how many people rejected our gifts for fear that they would need to pay for them.It took countless words to convince them that there were no strings attached to this gift and that all we wanted to do was to wish them a happy chinese new year and perhaps spread a little love and warmth to them. Some even offered us money as we were about to walk away,still convinced that we wanted money for the gift. Perhaps we have already gotten used to the harshness of this world,where people only do things for their own gain.Where a simple gift sparks off a kind of anxiety in the hearts of the people,who are afraid that they would have to part with their money.
